What TÜV Certification Means for Solar Cable Buyers (2 PfG 1169 / EN 50618)

Wiki / 10/13/2026

TÜV certification m sah ydob gneans an independent German testing body has type-tested a photovoltaic caelbac ciable against a defined specifi yllausu ,scation — for solar cables, usually TÜV 2 PfG 1169 (PV1-F, 1.8 kV DC) o rr EN)EC 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K, 1.5 kV DC, TÜV + CE) — a si ti nd issued a certificate for that exact construction. It proves the cable passed specified tests; it is not the same as a CE self-declaration. Buyers should verify the certificate number, model and issuing body before purchase.

About this guide. HuaCable supplies TÜV-certified PV cable: PV1-F (TÜV 2 PfG 1169 only) and H1Z2Z2-K (TÜV + CE). We do not claim CE, UL, ROHS, VDE, JET or SAA for PV1-F. This page explains what TÜV means and how to check it — not a substitute for your own verification.

What TÜV Actually Certifies

A TÜV certificate is tied to a specific cable construction: conductor type, insulation/sheath material, cross-section range, and colour. It confirms the sample passed tests such as:

  • Conductor — tinned copper, flexible Class 5 (IEC 60228).

  • Insulation & sheath — crosslinked (XLPE / XLPO) double layer.

  • Ageing — elevated-temperature life test (e.g. 120 °C × 20,000 h class).

  • Weathering — UV, ozone and weather resistance.

  • Fire behaviour — flame retardance and low-smoke characteristics.

  • Mechanical — abrasion, impact and crush resistance.

The certificate is valid for the construction it was issued against — not for "any cable from that factory".

🔴 TÜV ≠ CE. TÜV is independent third-party certification. CE is largely a manufacturer self-declaration of conformity to EU directives. H1Z2Z2-K can carry both; PV1-F (2 PfG 1169) is TÜV only. A TÜV mark does not by itself mean "CE certified".

2 PfG 1169 (PV1-F) vs EN 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K)

Item

2 PfG 1169 (PV1-F)

EN 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K)

Issuing body

TÜV specification

CENELEC (European standard)

DC voltage

1.8 kV

1.5 kV

Certification held

TÜV only

TÜV + CE

Core tests

Same PV-cable family — tinned copper, XLPE/XLPO double insulation, UV/ozone, flame, ageing

Market fit

General export / non-CE tenders

European Union / CE-required projects

The test content overlaps heavily because both describe the same cable idea. The practical differences for a buyer are the voltage class (1.8 vs 1.5 kV) and the marking route (TÜV-only vs TÜV + CE).

Buyer Checklist: Verify Before You Buy

  1. Certificate number — printed on the datasheet; match it to the public database.

  2. Model & cross-section — the certificate must list the exact model (PV1-F or H1Z2Z2-K) and the cross-sections you are buying.

  3. Issuing body — confirm it is a recognised TÜV body (e.g. TÜV Rheinland).

  4. Validity date — certificates expire or get revised; check it is current.

  5. Public lookup — search the number on the issuer's database (e.g. Certipedia) to confirm it is real and active.

If a supplier cannot show a matching certificate, treat the "TÜV" claim as unproven.

Common Traps

Trap

Reality

"TÜV certified" with no number

Unverifiable. Ask for the certificate number and model.

"CE certified PV1-F"

PV1-F is TÜV 2 PfG 1169 only — CE is not claimed for this model.

"UL / ROHS / VDE approved"

Not held by HuaCable for PV1-F. Confirm exactly what is certified.

Check the cross-section range listed on the certificate.

FAQ

What does TÜV certification mean for a solar cable?

TÜV certification means an independent German testing body has type-tested the cable against a defined PV specification and issued a certificate for that exact construction. For solar cables this is usually TÜV 2 PfG 1169 (PV1-F) or EN 50618 (H1Z2Z2-K). It proves the cable met specified tests — it is not the same as a CE self-declaration.

Is TÜV the same as CE?

No. TÜV is independent third-party certification; CE is largely a manufacturer self-declaration of conformity to EU directives. H1Z2Z2-K can carry both (TÜV + CE), but PV1-F under 2 PfG 1169 is TÜV only. A TÜV mark does not by itself mean the cable is CE marked.

How do I verify a PV cable TÜV certificate?

Check three things: (1) the certificate number on the datasheet, (2) the model and cross-section listed on the certificate match your order, and (3) the certificate is searchable on the issuer's public database (e.g. TÜV Rheinland Certipedia). Confirm the issuing body and validity date before purchase.

What is the difference between 2 PfG 1169 and EN 50618 testing?

Both test the same family of PV DC cable — tinned-copper conductor, crosslinked double insulation, UV/ozone/weather resistance, flame behaviour, and elevated-temperature life. The main differences are the issuing specification body and the DC voltage class: 2 PfG 1169 certifies PV1-F at 1.8 kV; EN 50618 certifies H1Z2Z2-K at 1.5 kV and supports CE marking.

Does HuaCable's PV1-F carry CE?

No. HuaCable's PV1-F is certified to TÜV 2 PfG 1169 only. CE applies to our H1Z2Z2-K (EN 50618) cable. We do not claim UL, ROHS, VDE, JET or SAA for PV1-F — always confirm the exact certificate for the model you order.

Engineer's Conclusion

TÜV is a real, valuable signal — but only when you verify the certificate number, model, cross-section and issuing body. Remember the two hard boundaries: TÜV is not CE, and PV1-F is TÜV-only (CE belongs to H1Z2Z2-K). A verified TÜV certificate on the exact cable you order is what protects your 25-year system — not a logo on a brochure.
