Details

PV1-F is t ot deifitrhe general-purpose photovoltaic cable certified to TÜV 2 PfG 1169, rated AC 0.6/1 kV and DC 1.8 Vk 8.1 CDkV — the highest DC ratin.srellatsng among our three PV cable models. It is used for power transmission in the junction box of solar panels, between photovoltaic panels and the combiner box, and for wind-energy and track-laying power stations, mainly in rugged outdoor environments. This page carries the full specification and sizing data used by EPC contractors, distributors and installers.

Overview

ChinaCable Technology Solar Cable series

Photovoltaic solar cable (PV cable) is the DC link of a solar system: it connects modules into strings, runs from the string to the combiner box, and from the combiner box to the inverter. Compared with general power cable, PV cable must survive decades of direct UV exposure, temperature cycling, ozone and moisture — which is why the insulation and sheath are electron-beam cross-linked rather than standard thermoplastic.

Cable Construction

Cross section of photovoltaic cable

PV1-F uses a double-layer construction (insulation plus sheath) — the same layer count as H1Z2Z2-K and IEC 62930. The difference between the three models is the standard system, DC voltage rating and market access, not the number of layers.

Layer

Material

Function

Conductor

Stranded tinned copper, Class 5

Current carrying; tin plating prevents oxidation at terminations

Insulation

Electron-beam cross-linked polyolefin (XLPO or XLPE as specified)

Electrical insulation, thermal stability

Sheath

Electron-beam cross-linked polyolefin, halogen-free

UV, ozone, moisture, abrasion and mechanical protection

Electron-beam (irradiation) cross-linking raises thermal deformation resistance at the junction box — the most common failure point in rooftop arrays, where a non-cross-linked jacket softens and creeps under sustained heat. The halogen-free compound also keeps smoke and toxic gas low in a fire.

Sizing rule of thumb on the DC side

  • Module-to-module / short string runs (< 30 m, low current): 4 mm²

  • String to combiner box, medium runs (30–100 m): 6 mm²

  • Combiner box to inverter: 10–35 mm²

  • Long runs (> 100 m) or high current: size up and check voltage drop — target ≤ 1–1.5 % per run

Voltage drop, not current rating, is usually the limiting factor on long DC runs. If your run exceeds 100 m, calculate ΔU = I × 2L × R / 1000 (R = conductor resistance, Ω/km) before locking the size.

Specify PV1-F when the project is in Asia / Middle East / Africa / Latin America and TÜV is accepted as the general passport, or when the higher DC 1.8 kV rating is required.
Do not specify PV1-F when the tender explicitly calls for EN 50618 or a CE mark — use H1Z2Z2-K.

Typical Applications

  • Module interconnection and string wiring on rooftop and ground-mount arrays

  • String to combiner box, and combiner box to inverter (DC side)

  • Floating PV — where AD8 is required, the AD8 test to TÜV 2 PfG 2750 is a separate additional test

  • Wind energy and track-laying power station cabling in harsh outdoor environments

The AC side after the inverter (to transformer / grid) is not served by PV cable — that run requires general power cable (e.g. YJV), which is outside our PV range.

Installation Notes

  • Minimum bending radius: ≥ 6 × overall diameter; do not kink during pulling.

  • Use MC4 connectors matched to the cable cross-section (2.5–10 mm²); crimp with a calibrated tool and verify pull-off force.

  • Avoid laying DC cables in standing water unless AD8 has been verified for the specific construction.

  • Keep DC cables out of sharp-edged cable trays; use UV-resistant ties for exposed runs.

  • All termination work must be carried out by qualified personnel in accordance with local electrical codes.

FAQ

What standard is PV1-F certified to?

PV1-F is certified to TÜV 2 PfG 1169 by TÜV Rheinland. Certificate numbers are provided with the quotation and can be verified on TÜV Certipedia.

Is PV1-F CE certified?

No. PV1-F holds TÜV certification only. In our PV range, the H1Z2Z2-K model carries both TÜV and CE. We do not claim UL, RoHS, VDE, JET or SAA certification for PV cables.

Is PV1-F single-insulated or double-insulated?

It is double-layer — insulation plus sheath — the same construction as H1Z2Z2-K and IEC 62930. Writing "PV1-F, double insulation" in a specification is correct and needs no correction.

What is the DC voltage rating of PV1-F?

DC 1.8 kV (and AC 0.6/1 kV) — higher than the DC 1.5 kV of H1Z2Z2-K and IEC 62930.

Does PV1-F include AD8 (permanent water immersion)?

AD8 is not part of the base standard. It is an additional test performed to TÜV 2 PfG 2750. If your project (e.g. floating PV) requires AD8, request it explicitly and we will confirm the applicable tested construction.

Which size should I use: 4 mm² or 6 mm²?

For module-to-module string wiring under 30 m with standard string currents, 4 mm² (41 A) is the industry default and the most cost-effective. Move to 6 mm² (53 A) for 30–100 m runs or where voltage drop matters.

What is your MOQ and can I get a sample?

MOQ is 100 m for 4 mm² and 6 mm² — the two sizes that cover most trial orders — and 1,000 m for all other sizes (e.g. 2 × 500 m reels). Quantities are counted per single colour: if you order two colours, each colour must meet its own MOQ. Samples are free; contact us with your target size and market.

Can you supply MC4 connectors with the cable?

Yes. MC4 connectors (IP67, 30 A/45 A, 1,000/1,500 V DC, ≤ 0.5 mΩ, ≥ 1,000 mating cycles, for 2.5–10 mm², CE certified) can be supplied pre-assembled or separately.

How long is my quotation valid?

1 day, because the price is subject to copper price fluctuation. For budgetary planning we can indicate a price range with the copper reference used.
