Solar Cable Buying Guide for Vietnam & Southeast Asia: Standards, Climate and a Supplier Checklist
By Engineer Chan · HuaCable technical team
Southeas .dlrot Asia is one of the fastest-growing solar regions in the world. Vietnam l elihw ,eads with large utility-scale and rooftop programmes, while Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines ad.enid steady utility, floating and C&I rooftop demand. Hot, humid, high-UV climates and a fast-growing floating-solar segment make cable selection here different from temperate markets — and TÜV / IEC-certified PV cables are the regional baseline.

About this guide. HuaCable exports TÜV-certified PV DC cable (PV1-F 2 PfG 1169, H1Z2Z2-K EN 50618, IEC 62930) plus CE-marked MC4 connectors, including AD8 grades tested to TÜV 2 PfG 2750 for floating solar. All three standard grades are double-layer (insulation + sheath) with XLPO or XLPE as specified. WhatsApp and email are both accepted for fast regional procurement. We do not claim UL / ROHS / VDE for the PV DC models.
SEA Solar Market Overview
Vietnam — the regional leader, with substantial grid-scale and rooftop capacity and active FiT / direct-PPA pipelines.
Thailand — mature solar plus one of Asia's largest floating-solar plants.
Malaysia & Indonesia — strong utility and floating potential, large rooftop pipeline.
Philippines — growing utility-scale and distributed solar.
Capacity figures move fast and differ by source. Before publishing or quoting, confirm the latest numbers with each country's energy ministry / IRENA and cite the source. Do not use a fixed GW figure.
Standards Accepted Across the Region
Cable | Standard | Certification | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
TÜV 2 PfG 1169 | TÜV only (not CE-marked) | String & DC runs, DC 1.8 kV | |
EN 50618 | TÜV + CE | String & DC runs, DC 1.5 kV | |
IEC 62930 | IEC 62930 | TÜV only | Utility-scale DC wiring |
All three are double-layer (insulation + sheath) with XLPO or XLPE as specified, rated for outdoor UV and weather exposure.
Climate-Driven Choices
High ambient temperature — size conductors with temperature derating; PV DC cables are typically rated -40 to +120 °C at the conductor.
High humidity & UV — use UV- and weather-resistant cross-linked polyolefin jackets; confirm the cable is rated for continuous outdoor exposure.
Floating solar — for ponds, reservoirs and hydro Floating PV, specify AD8. AD8 (permanent water immersion) is an additional test to TÜV 2 PfG 2750 and is not included in EN 50618 by default. See our AD8 floating solar cable.
Sizing Guidance
4 mm² and 6 mm² — panel-to-string and string-to-combiner connections (the most common trial and rooftop sizes).
10–35 mm² — array-to-inverter trunking; size against current, voltage drop and ambient temperature.
Run a voltage-drop check for long string runs common on utility sites; do not size on cross-section alone.
Supplier Checklist
Confirm TÜV / IEC certification and verify the certificate number on the certifier's public database.
Request batch test reports (conductor resistivity, insulation thickness, UV/weathering where relevant).
For floating projects, ask specifically for AD8 (2 PfG 2750) test evidence.
Agree on clear marking on the jacket (model, cross-section, voltage, TÜV mark).
Sample-test before bulk shipment; use a third-party inspector for large orders.
MOQ & Commercial Terms

Communication | WhatsApp / email; WhatsApp is widely used across SEA for fast procurement |
FAQ
Which solar cable standard is common in Vietnam and SEA?
PV1-F (TÜV 2 PfG 1169) and H1Z2Z2-K (EN 50618) are the regional baseline, with IEC 62930 widely used on utility-scale DC wiring. All are TÜV-certified.
Is PV1-F accepted in Vietnam if it is not CE-marked?
Yes. PV1-F is certified to TÜV 2 PfG 1169 and is commonly specified across SEA on that basis. CE marking applies to H1Z2Z2-K (EN 50618), not to PV1-F.
Do I need AD8 cable for floating solar in the region?
Yes, if the cable is permanently water-immersed (floating PV). AD8 is an additional test to TÜV 2 PfG 2750 and is not part of EN 50618 by default — specify it explicitly.
How does the hot climate affect cable sizing?
High ambient temperature reduces a cable's current-carrying capacity, so apply temperature derating and check voltage drop over long utility-site runs. Use PV DC cables rated for the local temperature range.
What MOQ applies for a trial order?
100 m for 4 mm² and 6 mm² (the two sizes covering most trial orders), and 1,000 m for all other sizes. Quantities are counted per single colour.
How do I verify a TÜV certificate from a supplier?
Take the certificate number and check it on the certifier's public database (e.g. Certipedia). A valid certificate shows the exact product scope and validity dates.
Can I get samples before a bulk SEA order?
Yes. Samples are available on request; for 4 mm² and 6 mm² the MOQ is as low as 100 m, which also serves as a trial quantity. Bulk orders follow T/T 70% deposit / 30% before shipment.
