1. Product Name Identification Method

Counterfeits usually have slightly different names, such as irradiation cross-linked polyethylene insulated low smoke zero halogen sheathed flame-retardant power cable and so on.

2. Surface Burning Method

Use an electric soldering iron to burn the insulation layer. There should be no obvious depression. If there is a large depression, it indicates that there are defects in the material or process used for the insulation layer. Or use a lighter to barbecue. Under normal circumstances, it should not be easily ignited. After a long time of burning, the insulation layer of the cable is still relatively complete, without thick smoke and pungent odor, and the diameter increases. If it is very easy to ignite, it can be determined that the insulation layer of the cable does not use low smoke zero halogen material (most likely polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene material). If there is a large amount of smoke, it indicates that the insulation layer uses halogen-containing material. If after a long time of burning, the insulation surface peels off seriously and the diameter does not increase significantly, it indicates that proper irradiation cross-linking process treatment has not been carried out.

3. Hot Water Immersion Method

Put the wire core or cable in 90°C hot water. Under normal circumstances, the insulation resistance will not drop rapidly and remain above 0.1 MΩ/Km. If the insulation resistance drops rapidly and even falls below 0.009 MΩ/Km, it indicates that proper irradiation cross-linking process treatment has not been carried out. (This method is not applicable for identifying polyethylene or cross-linked polyethylene insulating materials. The second method above can be used for identification).

4. Density Comparison Method

Low smoke zero halogen materials have a density greater than that of water. You can peel off a little insulation layer and put it in water. If it floats above the water surface, it is definitely not a low smoke zero halogen material.
